It’s April 15. Do you know where your taxes are?

Or should the question be, do you know where your taxes are going?
I’m often confused about the entire tax system. It seems they tax us on things that shouldn’t be taxed, but don’t tax us on things that should. And, for the most part, the only thing that I can see all of our taxes are accomplishing is putting money into the politician’s pockets. They get paid more in their term in office than I’m likely to see my whole lifetime, and that’s pretty sad.
I don’t think their jobs are any more important than mine. I mean, they’re only arguing among themselves about how to spend the money that we citizens send in each year. Yeah, they help decide on new laws, but many of them are so filled with pork spending that its hard to tell what the original purpose of the bill is. So, from my point of view, they’re not doing all that much to help the country.
Let’s be serious here. How many people, after working only 3-4 years, are given health insurance for life? I don’t even HAVE insurance, so I think this is a farce. The President, after he leaves office, will basically have everything he needs taken care of - salary for life, secret service men to guard him, health insurance, etc. I don’t think it’s fair.
However, that explains why so many people want the position. It may be heck while you’re in there, but the fringe benefits are pretty good.
So, back to the taxes. It’s “Tax Day.” Have you gotten your taxes done and ready to turn in? Don’t wait too long, they have to be postmarked today.
