I hope you aren’t subjected to April’s Fools Jokes
Posted in A day in the life of . . . on Apr 1st, 2008
Yep, it’s that time of year again - April 1st.
That means taxes are due in 14 more days, if you owe money. We mailed our state check in yesterday. So it should definitely be postmarked earlier than April 15th. I hated writing out that check, and sending it off, but I’m thankful we had the money in the account to pay it.
I splurged last night - well it wasn’t really a splurge, it was a necessity. I had an “office” chair that we had purchased a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the casters came off and it was tearing up the carpet near my desk. My son had also leaned back too far in it and it didn’t sit up straight anymore. So, it was time for a new chair.
What I splurged on was that I spent $100 for a chair! The only thing I’ve EVER bought for the house that cost that much was our refrigerator, deep freezer, and washer/dryer combo. I just don’t spend that kind of money, as a general rule. And, I probably didn’t have to this time, either. I could have gotten a cheaper chair, but this one was much better made than the others I saw.
It was originally priced at $149.99, so I saved $50, which is always good. Of course, there were some chairs that were there that cost over $500! I almost fainted! Of course, they were leather, but who cares. If you’re wearing shorts, your legs will stick to that, so it’s not an option for me anyhow. They can keep their expensive chairs.
Of course, my dear hubby had some problems putting the silly thing together. But it’s done, I’m sitting in it, and I can actually lean back without having to lie back! LOL There was a Shiatsu massager that I could have bought, but that would have been another $100, and I just couldn’t make myself do it.
I guess my purpose in telling you all this is that sometimes we have to do something nice for ourselves. I work at my computer as a writer all day long, so it only made sense to pick something that was comfortable, even if it DID cost more than I would normally spend. The way I look at it, it’s an investment. I mean, if I’m uncomfortable, I won’t work well, which means I won’t make as much money. So, I’m going to sit back, relax a few minutes on my new chair, and then get back to work.
Be blessed, and have a great Tuesday!
