There has been quite a bit going around the internet and the news about the tax stimulus package that was recently signed by the President. The “checks” are set to be delivered beginning in May. I guess we’ll see if it actually happens.

Don’t get me wrong, I always welcome “free” money. But with the government, NOTHING is for free. There’s a catch someplace, there just has to be. I mean, I realize they’re trying to get people to SPEND the money that they’re going to give them, but will that really help stimulate the economy? I’m not sure.

I guess I should have paid a little bit better attention in school, particularly about economics. You know, supply and demand, deficits, etc. It just never really appealed to me then. It doesn’t really appeal to me now, either, but all this will affect me and my family, so maybe I’d better listen and learn, huh?

A friend of mine had said that only certain people were going to get the “check” based on tax liability. That’s not what I understood it to say. My understanding was that everyone who paid taxes would receive something - how much you received was based upon your income for the previous year and how many children (up to 3, I think) that you have. If that’s the case, MAYBE we’ll get $1,200.

Oh, believe me, I won’t turn the money away, if we get it. I just don’t know how much it’s going to help the economy out. It seems to me that the only thing that’s truly going to help the economy is for the politicians in Washington, D.C. to stop adding tons of “pork” spending onto every bill that goes through. They need to stop spending and they need to stop taxing us to death. That’s my opinion, anyway, and I think its shared by a whole lot of people.

What about you? What do you think about the tax stimulus package? Do you think it’ll make a difference? Do you think it’ll actually stimulate the economy? Or are we headed down a slippery slope that we can’t climb back up? I’d really like to know your thoughts.
