This is surprising

I was sitting here doing some work when a friend of mine called.
“Are you online?” she asked.
“That’s a silly question to ask, why?” I retorted.
“I could have sworn I just heard FoxNews say that Fred Thompson has bowed out.”
So, I stop what I’m doing to go check it out. And, yep, she heard correctly. Fred Thompson has dropped his bid for President of the United States.
I can’t say that I’m really surprised that he WOULD drop out, I just didn’t expect him to drop out YET. I would have at least expected him to wait until after his home state of Tennessee had its primary. I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed. I wonder how the other candidates feel about it, though.
Apparently, Mitt Romney is hoping that those who hoped Thompson would win the election will turn to him as the closest nominee to fit the “Reagan” mold. Some have also intimated that perhaps by stepping out now, Thompson would be a viable Vice Presidential candidate. Interesting stuff, don’t you think?
So, the Democratic candidates are down to: Clinton, Obama, Edwards, Kucinich, Gravel.
Republican candidates are down to: Huckabee, Romney, McCain, Giuliani, and Paul.
In case you’re counting, that’s five candidates per side. So, are you any closer to making a decision? As I think I said before, I know who I’m NOT voting for, but haven’t made a decision who I’ll vote for in our Primary come February 5.
